First Long Story Shorts Announced [13.01.2010]
Affirm Press is delighted to announce the first three titles selected for Long Story Shorts, a project to publish six collections of short fiction from individual authors in 2010.
Three books have been commissioned from more than 200 submissions to date. Under Stones by Bob Franklin will be published in February 2010; Nineteen Seventysomething by Barry Divola in March 2010; and Known Unknowns by Emmett Stinson in June 2010.
Recognising a gap in opportunities for emerging writers, Affirm Press aims to provide additional incentive for new writers to hone their craft and demonstrate their flair. The six books will be created as a series, designed and illustrated by award-winning illustrator Dean Gorissen.
The deadline for final submissions is 1 February 2010. Long Story Shorts is open to everyone, from hobbyist to experienced authors. Affirm Press is calling for submissions between 40,000 and 70,000 words (short fiction, flash fiction, novellas, bits of narrative that defy categorisation), at least half of which must be unpublished. Standard royalties will apply. Writers should send through their collection, a short bio and information on what has been been previously published to info@affirmpress.com.au.
Final deadline for submissions 1 February 2010.
